My 10th Stravaversary

I can’t believe Strava didn’t remember our tenth Stravaversary. My first Strava ride was, unsurprisingly, a commute over Council Crest on May 27, 2011.

This was not the first ride I recorded via GPS! I had been occasionally fiddling with MapMyRide for a few months prior. Why did I eventually settle on — and stick with — Strava? Because it lets me export all my data. So I could (in theory) import all my Strava data into some other tool. It won my loyalty by leaving the door open.

In the past 10 years I’ve logged 4497 rides on Strava, totaling 50,473.3 miles. Of course this is a lowball number — I’ve had a lot of unlogged rides. But “5000 miles a year” does sound about right.
